An innovative project for the sustainable production of natural carotenoids
The initiative, supported by a total investment of €1,215,962.75 and public funding from the European Union amounting to €836,004.09, under the PR MARCHE ERDF 2021/2027 – Axis 1 – Specific Objective 1.1 – Action 1.1.1 – Call for proposals “Research and development to innovate the Marche Region” – Incentives for companies to carry out industrial research and experimental development activities within the areas of the Regional Smart Specialisation Strategy, aims to develop a cutting-edge system for the production of microalgae capable of accumulating high quantities of natural carotenoids.
An innovative and sustainable approach
The core of the project lies in the production of a microalga with the unique ability to synthesize and accumulate carotenoids—compounds known for their antioxidant properties and numerous benefits for human health.
The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to introduce an eco-friendly and sustainable production method; on the other, to reduce dependence on synthetic carotenoids, which currently dominate the market.
